Physical activity is vital to concentration, and the cognitive and emotional well being of children. For this reason we will encourage your child to participate actively in a wide range of sporting activities throughout their school career, from Prep through to Year 12.
Our sports program complements the physical education component of the curriculum. Organised training sessions take place at lunchtimes and before and after school, as teams prepare for the challenge of inter-school competitions.
Team sports encourage collaboration, commitment, empathy, grace in winning and losing, and enjoyment.
Each year we hold the following House competitions, which we encourage all students to participate in:
At Tyabb campus we offer coaching programs in the following sports:
Our teams enter into competitions organised by local sporting associations, and compete regularly with other independent and government schools.
Tyabb Campus is a member of the Southern Independent Schools (SIS) Association. This gives our Secondary students the opportunity to compete at a high standard with other independent schools at top class venues like Olympic Park, while our Primary students participate in the Crib Point District School Sports Victoria. Through this your child may have the opportunity to represent the school in inter-school sport, or to be selected for one of our Primary or Secondary squads.
Within our coaching program we are also invited to participate in the Victorian College Basketball Championships and the State Schools Netball Championships. Secondary students are selected to attend preliminary days for these Championships, with a finals day appearance based on their results. Students may be selected across our campuses for these State Championships.
Flinders is also a member of School Sport Victoria (SSV) which gives our students opportunities to attend selections for state teams across a number of different sports.
Meanwhile, through the Christian Schools Association National Championships our students have the opportunity to trial for the Victorian squads for swimming, athletics, soccer, and basketball, heading towards the National Championships.
