Flinders employs a broad range of technologies in the classroom to support and enhance learning, increasing student engagement and effectiveness. The college is committed to maintaining and extending the use of technology, equipping students to thrive in an information age.
Flinders online learning management system, ourFlinders, is at the core of classroom teaching. ourFlinders allows teachers and students to interact online, sharing learning resources and materials, engaging in quizzes and assignments, and provide students with feedback on their work.
Classroom Technologies
We want to help your child develop a love of learning. To facilitate this, we endeavour to make their classroom experience as vibrant, interactive and stimulating as possible. Computers and emerging technologies play an important role in equipping students for life in a digital age.
We make use of a wide variety of digital resources to enhance the learning experience, and to deliver better services to our students. Here are some of the ways we do this:
- In Primary school, a range of technologies are made available in classrooms for student use. Each room is fitted with a projector and interactive whiteboard. A variety of desktop pc’s, laptops, iPads, digital cameras and other technologies are deployed according to the contextual and curriculum needs of the various year levels.
- For Secondary students (Years 7 to 12), Flinders has adopted a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) strategy. This investment in an appropriate laptop computer for your child provides full-time exclusive access to a familiar device, developing digital fluency and enhanced learning opportunities at school and at home. (See the Booklists and BYOD page for more information).
- Equipped with capable personal computers, digital resources and with filtered access to the internet at school, students are guided and encouraged to safely and effectively pursue learning and develop skills for a digital world.
- Cloud-based collaborative software such as Google Apps for Education and Microsoft Office 365 is employed to facilitate information sharing and project collaboration.
- Our comprehensive technology provision serves students and teachers extend the learning in core academic subjects, developing essential 21st century skills such critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity and innovation.
eSmart School
In August 2016 Flinders Christian Community College became accredited as an eSmart school. This certification is awarded by Alannah & Madeleine Foundation, in recognition of our journey over several years to ensure that all members of the Flinders Community understand what it means to be a smart and safe digital citizen.
Our eSmart certification recognises that as a College we:
- Have an eSmart Committee that meets on a regular basis to oversee the programs that support understanding of cyber-safety issues.
- Recognise the importance of maintaining a safe online environment at school organisational level.
- Have put policies and processes in place to support safe online practices across the College.
- Promote a respectful and caring environment for students, staff and parents.
- Have a curriculum in place to continue to up-skill our students in what it means to be smart and safe digital citizenships.
- Have programs in place to ensure that our staff are using smart technologies in a safe and effective manner.
- Include parents and other community organisations in our eSmart journey and the life of the College in general.
- Earning our eSmart certification is not the end of the journey, it is just the beginning. Flinders continues to remain committed to helping all members of our community understand how to be safe and smart when using all forms of technology.
